Perfection. We all strive for it, but what happens when the desire to be perfect consumes you? What happens when the need to bury your mistakes blinds you? Melanie Crane has always been the perfect daughter, friend, student – she’s been perfect at everything, in fact. But when she lets her insecurities, the ones that she keeps hidden from everyone, get the best of her, she falters in her pursuit of perfection. Melanie crumples under the pressure and buries her pain. Numbed by sadness and guilt, she is determined never to let anyone find out how broken she really is. Bryan Mahoney may appear to have everything in order. He’s charming, witty and completely swoon-worthy. In short, Bryan has life all figured out, but appearances can be deceiving. When the landscape of Bryan’s family changes in an instant, he’s left to pick up the pieces. Not all bruises leave a mark. Now, weary and afraid, Melanie and Bryan must find a way to let love heal their broken and jaded hearts.

I absolutely feel in love with Maddy and Reid in Let Love In and Let Love Stay and when I heard Melanie, Maddy’s best friend was getting her own spin off I was so excited to get her story and Melissa Collins did not disappoint! Again she made me get all misty eyed and emotional and made me fall in love with her characters. I love that she writes real stories we can relate to and does not try to cover them with fluff. With what Melanie deals with is something every girl can relate to and can see themselves as her.

First off that prologue… OMGAWD…. Off the bat, that prologue grabs you and rips you to shreds! How can I move past that! gah…. Its emotional, its gut wrenching, and it will wreck you! I would have to check your pulse if it did not bring out something in you.

Then we get into the story of Melanie and Bryan. Melanie is not your normal heroine in a book. She’s not that slim petite girl we always read about and loathe because really, how many of us are a size 2???!!! She’s a girl with curves and is always self-conscious about it. She feels like she’s not pretty enough or skinny enough and will always just be the funny fat friend compared to Maddy who has the all American girl next door looks. After Maddy and Reid find each other, Melanie struggles with life without Maddy always being by her side. She starts to go down a path of self-destruction and its heart breaking!

Bryan… Bryan… Bryan… I just loved him. He and Melanie met at college and she struggles with her feelings for him. Why would someone like Bryan fall for someone like her?? He sees her for who she is that she is beautiful no matter what she thinks of herself. She does some things that make me want to go through my kindle and choke slam her! gah… At times it’s frustrating but then I kept going back to is how Ms. Collins makes the story so real and relevant. Melanie can be so many girls and dealing with body issues and self-esteem is a struggle and may people deal with it every day. To accept that someone can love you for what’s inside and not on the outside is not always easy. Bryan has to break past the walls she has built up. It just makes you love him even more!

The entire series is just something special and Melissa Collins has a true gift for writing exceptional love stories! If you have not read them, I highly recommend them all. They are each superb! I have fallen in love with each book and this one is no exception! 5 huge stars!

Headshot

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it’s been a dream. Her passion for writing didn’t start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn’t long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa’s brain and The Love Series was born.
