Gable Powers had all the makings of everything my father had ever warned me about: a reputation that was anything but stellar, a dirty mouth that had me shivering at the things he uttered in my ear, and a body (oh, God, that body) that was covered in tattoos, all of which added up to a solid ten-point-oh on the bad-boy scale.
The first time I met him, I instantly loathed him.
The second time was even worse.
He was a jerk. He was an ass.
He had secrets.
He was nothing I thought I ever wanted.
So why couldn’t I resist him?
New adult. Not recommended for readers under 17.

Gable by Harper Bentley is the first book in the Powers That Be Series and let me tell you that you may melt when you read this story.  A story about discovering who you are and opening yourself up to another person in friendship without their appearance interfering, I was enthralled with finding out how things would end up with Gable and Scout.  This book was a 3.5 star read for me and I cannot wait for the next book on the Powers brothers and I think that you will feel the same after reading!

Scout, named after one of her mother's favorite literary characters, is the youngest of two older brothers.  Living on a farm her whole life she goes away to school in her sophomore year after convincing her father that she would be okay on her own.  The first time she meets Gable Powers she is automatically turned off by his cocky attitude and the confidence that he exudes with knowing that he can have any girl in the female population.  With a reputation for being a bad boy player, Scout wants nothing to do with him and hopes that she doesn't run into him on campus.  When he shows up in her psychology class and blatently hits on her trying to get her into bed she hates him even more and tries avoiding him at all costs.  That is until her professor assigns the class to interact with a classmate via email only for the entire semester.  Excited at the idea of having a penpal, Scout looks forward to the emails that her and her classmate begin passing back and forth.

Gable is the bad boy who lives up to the reputation that precedes him, that is until he meets his Priss one day in the pouring rain while attempting to help her change her tire.  Scout wants nothing to do with him, and that only makes him want to get her in bed and underneath him even more.  As he begins the assignment of trading emails with his penpal from psycology class, he begins to open up in ways that are totally out of character for him, or are they really?

Gable and Scout become semi-friends outside of the classroom, and Scout begins to realize that there is a side to Gable that most people don't get to see.  It is when she begins to develop feelings for him and they go on a date that things seem to speed up like a freight train waiting to derail.  Realizing that Gable is the student that she has been conversing with, that she has opened up to and has opened up to her, she wonders if he feels the same way and she knows that it is only a matter of time before her heart is crushed into a million pieces by the campus bad boy.  After a hot and steamy night together, Scout believes that Gable has no idea that she is really his pen pal and the fact that he gave himself to another girl while he was supposed to be with her crushes her and sends her packing back to the farm.  Unsure if she will return to school, she stays with her family hoping to figure it all out, refusing to listen to or reply to the many many messages that Gable has sent her.  When he shows up on her front steps without warning it appears that all bets are off.  Will Gable be able to convince Scout that he only has eyes for her?  You will have to read to find out!

This was a good book.  I can’t spoil the plot because it would ruin your reading experience.  I can say, you will enjoy this tale about a budding friendship that has potential for much more…  I liked the angst, chemistry and frustrating moments shared between the hero and heroine.
“In my prime, sweetheart. Can’t wait to show you over and over and over.”
– Gable
It’s about two college kids that paths cross. They are polar opposites but share a connection. He’s sure of himself and gets what he wants. She is a bit conservative and an attractive tomboy type.  These two can’t be more different, but he gets under her skin. He isn’t the relationship type. He’s not her usual type. He wants her. She craves him. He frustrates her and she doesn’t put up with his shit. They just may be made for each other.
“What in the world is going on in his head? One minute he’s telling me he’s with me, whatever  he meant by that, and the next he’s looking at me as if I was the biggest mistake he’s ever made.” – Scout
If you are looking for a fast paced angsty read, you are sure to devour Gable. I’m a sucker for the misunderstood type. Their interactions kept this story exciting and the chemistry undeniably exciting. I give Gable 4 STARS!

Gable is the first book in the Powers That Be Series. This book is a very steamy sexy read that I would give a big 4 stars.  It is a college romance of sorts and those are close to one of my favorite types of books.  You have the bad boy and the country girl who is a little spitfire at heart.  This is a standalone and does have an HEA, but don't worry ladies there is more to come and I can't wait for the next installment.  Be prepared for the panties to melt and for you to side with Scout on many occasions because Gable will make you wanna slap him in the face and get in his pants!

Gable and Scout meet at school and of course they have an instant connection.  Scout loathes Gable at first because he is known as the cocky bad boy and Scout needs college to prove herself to her family.  When they get assigned a partner in class to email with for a psychology assignment things will start to change.  Can you have a connection with someone over email and not know who they are but then get jealous when you think that possibly your email buddy is the cocky bad boy who is relentlessly hitting on you in real life because technically its 2 different people even though that person is you.  When things get steaming in real life with Gable and Scout and they have a night of passion and Gable just pushes it under the rug.. will Scout be able to stay at school?  Or is the safety at her hometown and her farm what will become her life?
Can Gable get past his insecurities and stop being the player and finally fall in love?

Go get this book and look out for more from the brothers in this series because its gonna be another hot one!  Thanks Harper this was a great story!

“I miss the white outfit,” he stated then put his hands on my hips, moving them down to where his fingers skimmed along the hem of my shorts then started moving them slowly back toward my bottom. “But these hot pink shorts make you look completely fuckable too.”
That brought me out of my stupor and I spun around, glaring up at him. “You can’t talk to me like that!” I hissed under my breath, glancing around self-consciously to make sure no one was watching our exchange.
He peered down at my chest where my nipples were standing at full attention under my t-shirt. “From the looks of it, I think you like me talking to you like that.” Then he leaned in closer. “What’s the matter? Never been talked dirty to before, Priss?” When he pulled back, I saw that the half grin was now going strong and his luminous brown eyes were dancing with humor at his having riled me.
Holy hell.
As I kept glowering at him, having no response to that, I noticed a girl next to us gawking at us, and embarrassed, I smiled shyly at her, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear, trying to act normal. When she turned away, I whisper-hissed at him, “Are you kidding me right now? Just who do you think you are?”
He bent again to get close to my ear. “I’m the guy who’ll have you coming hard before the semester’s over,” he answered evenly, his eyes shimmering with cockiness as they burned into mine when he stood straight again.
Mesmerized, I gazed back at him, lost in him, wanting what he was selling, God, how did he do that, until it hit me that I should be offended by his boldness and I suddenly frowned. “What is your deal?” I screeched making several students look at me and felt my face burning even hotter than it already was at his inappropriate comments. I turned to get away from him mumbling, “Oh, my God,” but he grabbed me by the arm pulling me in close.
“You don’t  have to call me God. Gable works, but I’m sure I’ll be making you scream both soon,” he whispered close to my ear.
I pushed against his chest (of course he didn’t budge at all) and jerked my arm from his grasp with a scowl then moved as far away from him as I could, going to the back of the line to wait until he left. Standing there, I closed my eyes trying to get a hold of myself but could still see his seductive gaze searing into mine as he smirked while saying those things to me, as if he was so confident that they’d happen regardless of what I had to say about it.
And the really bad thing about it? As I stood there, a complete emotional mess from what’d just happened, I found I actually wanted those things to happen, which served to embarrass me even more not to mention just totally baffle me. I mean, I’d only slept with one guy, Hayden, my first and only boyfriend, and that’d been after we’d dated for almost a year so it wasn’t like I got around much, so what was wrong with me that I was all in for having sex with someone I barely knew? Someone who’d been an ass to me from day one. Someone who obviously had way more experience than I had.
As I stood behind everyone, I swallowed thickly, my cheeks still on fire, wondering who the hell I was, and when I moved my eyes to the front I saw Gable write his person’s number down in his notebook, smile at a girl who was gazing up at him like he was a damned rock star then he left without even a glance back at me.
When I finally got to the front, I wrote my person’s number down quickly and got the heck out of there because a few people were still watching me curiously. As I walked outside the building, I cautiously surveyed the area making sure Gable hadn’t hung around wanting to torment me some more but saw that he was off to my right talking to his friend, Mr. Tactful, and they were near the parking lot which was a good twenty yards away. I also saw that Gable was smoking. Well, total turnoff right there. Good. At least he had something about him that repulsed me (other than his cocky attitude, that is), and when I saw the coast was clear, I let out the breath I was holding, relief flooding over me along with a bit of disappointment at his unhealthy habit, and headed away in the opposite direction from him, going to my next class.
